Mechanical Designer – Building Services

Duties & Responsibilities

Can you deliver effective, professional, quality service at all times both in the office and when with clients?

Can you mentor junior designers while providing support to senior engineers as they oversee projects from their genesis to conclusion with respect to design of HVAC, utility, plumbing and fire protection systems?

Do you enjoy creating project layout & system drawings in AutoCAD and calculating heating/cooling loads in load analysis software?

Skills & Experience

Design building systems in compliance with the provincial building code and relevant industry standards.
Review project plans, requirements, and budgets to assist the senior engineer in identifying client needs and offering value engineering solutions.
Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination and information sharing with the in-house electrical department, project engineers, and external consultants.
Develop clear and concise project layouts, system drawings, and plans using AutoCAD and/or Revit software.
Ensure drawings and plans comply with relevant regulations, contract specifications, and engineering principles related to HVAC, plumbing, utilities, and fire protection by conducting system analysis and becoming familiar with applicable products.
Adhere to industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and provincial building codes in all design work.
Prepare and submit permit applications, including assembling required exhibits for regulatory approval.
Revise plans and drawings in response to feedback from regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
Maintain an up-to-date as-built database by modifying project drawings as needed.
Prepare fee estimates and construction cost proposals.
Assist in project management, with authorization from the project engineer, by providing mechanical design services and monitoring project progress from tender issuance through construction completion, including site surveys, inspections, and client communication.
Review contractor progress billings and updates to project plans.
Perform system analysis and energy/cooling load calculations.
